Our exhibition of work by Peter Hayes, one of our most original and celebrated potters is now ended.
"I have always been interested in why and how 'things' are made of clay. I am naturally drawn to shapes of artefacts and objects from other cultures and other times that remain timeless." Peter Hayes.
"... he doesn't aim to teach but to inspire - and inspire he did." Ian Hodgson

Peter Hayes is a potter like no other. His studio is an old Toll House on a bridge over the river Avon. Below is a wooden deck that juts out from the bank, and if you stand there and peer into the river, you will see several long pale shapes staring back at you. After the hazards of raku-firing his pieces are submerged in the flowing river for months at a time - other pieces are dispatched to Cornwall to be ravished by the tide.
"I find it joyful to work with many different clays... Each has its own character, its own limits, its own tolerance. Some clays fight back, some play the game." Peter Hayes
The exhibition at Rufford Craft Centre concluded on 17 July.If you would like to receive more information on this or our future events please click here and leave your contact details. Thank you.
